Frequently asked questions.

What is Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy?
IFS is an evidence-informed approach that treats the mind as made up of "parts," each trying to protect you in its own way, around a core Self. Instead of fighting a reaction, you get curious about the part behind it. Daniel uses IFS with teens and adults to lower reactivity and build self-understanding.
Do you work with teenagers?
Yes. A large part of Daniel's work is with adolescents and their families, including defended, high-risk, and justice-involved youth. He focuses on reaching teens who are hard to reach, and on helping parents stay connected through it.
What do you help with?
Identity, emotional regulation, substance use, high-risk adolescent behavior, faith and meaning, and the questions that come with big life change. Daniel draws on Internal Family Systems and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
Do you offer in-person or online sessions?
Daniel works in the Salt Lake City, Utah area. The easiest way to ask about in-person or online availability is to reach out directly.
Do you take insurance, and what does a session cost?
The best way to sort out fees and insurance is to contact Daniel directly. He will walk you through your options and what to expect.
What is a non-denominational faith or officiant service?
Daniel offers faith and officiant services for people who want a spiritual presence without a specific denomination, including ceremonies and life events, graveside and committal services, and visits to nursing homes and care facilities. He is a former ordained Catholic priest with graduate training in theology and divinity.
How is therapy different from talking to a friend?
Friends offer validation, which matters. Therapy adds something else: tracking the pattern underneath, the trigger and the reaction, so you can interrupt it instead of only feeling heard. A friend holds space for the story; a counselor helps you change it.
Can Daniel speak at our conference or train our team?
Yes. Daniel gives keynotes, breakouts, and CE workshops on parts work with teens, identity, and reaching defended youth, for conferences and treatment teams. See the Speaking page or reach out to talk about your event.
How do I get started?
Reach out through the contact page. Daniel will get back to you to talk about what you are looking for and the next step.
